Dating: This Guy's Creative Pickup Line Pun Actually Worked
Sometimes people have difficulty finding the words or courage with which to communicate their feelings to others. This article tells the story of the guy who came up with a creative but crazy pick up line that didn’t involve any talking.
According to a report on BuzzFeed, a guy gave a girl his number using a "Pick-Up Line." Notice the play on words? Michael Nguyen is a 17-year-old guy from Richmond Hill, Georgia. Nguyen and Natalie Salguero are classmates, both 17 years old. The duo has been "class friends" for a while, but recently Nguyen thought it'd be cool to get Salguero's phone number. And here is how he did it.
He didn’t need lines he had lime!
According to Nguyen, he gave Salguero the lime because he finds it difficult to talk with girls and he wanted to do something to get her attention. He got the idea from a post on Tumblr. He says he wanted to be creative, so he wrote his number on a lime and gave it to her. Later, Salguero found it so funny she decided to share the story on her Twitter page, and there have been a lot of comments about it since then. Her Twitter post said, "This is Michael, Michael gave me a lime. It had his number. It's a pickup lime”.
The comments are hilarious. Twitter users loved Nguyen's fresh approach to asking a girl out. It portrayed Michael as smart, and they urged Salguero to accept the date. Both teenagers said that the response has been huge, with people at their school calling Nguyen the "lime guy." He has even put it in his Twitter bio.
Finally, Nguyen mustered the courage to ask Salguero her number. He said the reactions on Twitter gave him the confidence to ask her for her number later.
The question is did this really work?
Salguero used a hashtag #GetYouAMichael, in her tweet, so clearly, the lime worked. Also, Nguyen told BuzzFeed that he actually got the courage to ask for Salguero’s number, because of the overwhelming response that Salguero’s received tweets.
Things have certainly been set in motion now, but even if it hasn’t, Michael will always be remembered for this, given his new title “the lime guy” at school which he has already updated on his twitter bio.
Speaking of pick-up limes, this was the post on Tumblr from which Nguyen got his idea.
- Acquire several dozen limes.
- Go up to them and drop all the limes.
- Start picking them up, but keep dropping them. The clumsier you look the better.
- Keep doing this until you have their attention (this could take up to thirty minutes).
- Finally, gather up the limes. Try looking a bit sheepish.
- Look them deeply in the eyes and say, “Sorry. I’m bad at Pickup Limes.”
- Marry me
Since the original post, a lot of Tumblr users have tried out the pick-up lime strategy.
